The Vall d’Horta is one of the few open areas that can be found in the abrupt mountain range of Sant Llorenç del Munt. As its name suggests, it is an area of great agricultural tradition, where the intense human activity has left its mark on the landscape.
A lot of masies of medieval origin are located throughout the valley. La Roca, las Oliveres, la Muntada o Can Brossa are some examples. The most emblematic building, the Marquet de la Roca, is located at the bottom of the valley surrounded by the summits of the Montcau, Emprius and Rocamur. It is an old masia restored as a Neo-Romanesque centre of Historicist style, precedent of Modernism, which was the summer house of the family of the poet Joan Oliver (Pere Quart) and where he spent long periods and often organized literary evenings.
