MORNING: Vallparadís Park, nature and heritage

We propose you to take a family walk in the Vallparadís Park. A green space in the heart of the Terrrassa full of leisure spaces and heritage buildings.

The Vallparadís Park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe, is the scenario throughout the year of various activities and events emblematic of the city such as the Jazz Festival, the Festa Major (village festival) and the Modernist Fair.

You can get there either by car or by bus or train. You can check the transport options at this link.

Here you have a map showing the different points of interest and services of the park. You will find a lake where you can rent a boat, a swimming pool open to the public in summer, children’s play areas, fountains, public toilets, cafes and restaurants, as well as picnic areas. The park is accessible to people with functional diversity: it has several ramps at the different entrances and also has elevators.

We suggest that you take advantage of the walk to stop and visit some of the following heritage buildings that you will find along the route:

CASTELL CARTOIXA DE VALLPARADÍS

The Castle Cartoixa is the main site of the Museum of Terrassa. You can visit an exhibition on local history with archaeological, historical and artistic pieces from the city and the region.

CENTRE DE DOCUMENTACIÓ I MUSEU TÈXTIL

The Documentation Centre and Textile Museum (Centre de Documentació i Museu Tèxtil, CDMT) works to conserve and disseminate the textile heritage, both among specialists and the general public. You will find exhibitions for all audiences, activities and workshops. It also offers training and services for the restoration, conservation and documentation of textile objects.

SEU D’ÈGARA. ESGLÉSIES DE SANT PERE

This is an exceptional collection of Catalan historical and artistic heritage. The churches of Sant Pere, Sant Miquel and Santa Maria and the archaeological and artistic heritage they contain, span a wide chronology, from Iberian times to the present day. Full of details are preserved until today, the architecture of the three temples and the testimonies of the Visigothic era, the murals of the early Middle Ages and Romanesque and the Gothic altarpieces.

Where you will find the headquarters of the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (Museu Nacional de la Ciència i de la Tècnica de Catalunya, mNACTEC). This museum disseminates and promotes the knowledge of scientific, technical and industrial culture and preserves, shows and studies the scientific and technical advances in Catalonia, their industrial application and the social impact they have had.

You can visit the various preserved parts of this modernist steam, considered one of the best examples of Catalan industrial modern style (fireplace, coal burners, boilers, steam engine and a machine room) and the permanent and temporary exhibitions it hosts.

MERCAT DE LA INDEPENDÈNCIA

The Independence Market is the central market of Terrassa and has traditionally been considered the most important in the city. The building is the work of municipal architects Antoni Pascual i Carretero and Melcior Vinyals i Muñoz. It was inaugurated on November 14, 1908 and its name commemorates the centenary of the start of the French War, also known as the War of Independence.

CASA ALEGRE DE SAGRERA

The Alegre de Sagrera House was built in the early 19th century as the residence of the Sagrera family, one of the wealthiest families in Terrassa. In 1911, the architect Melcior Vinyals renovated the building according to an eclectic modernist model, according to the taste of the industrial bourgeoisie of the time. Both the house and its magnificent gardens are currently open to the public.

GRAN CASINO  

The Gran Casino del Foment de Terrassa or the Gran Casino (Big Casino) is a work of Louis Muncunill. It was known as the “gentlemen’s casino” since it had become a leisure space for the bourgeoisie of Terrassa.

TEATRE PRINCIPAL

Located in the center of Terrassa, the Main Theatre is intended for large-scale productions and shows. It is a building decorated with applied arts in the modern style, which has been recently renovated.

MAGATZEM TORRAS

The Torras Warehouse, also known as Cal Sastre d’Olesa, is a building by the architect Melcior Vinyals, with an almost triangular plan located between the streets of Sant Pere and carrer de la Rasa.

MASIA FREIXA

The Freixa Farmhouse is a Gaudi-inspired building built by architect Lluís Muncunill between 1905 and 1910. The farmhouse was built on the structure of a former textile factory owned by the manufacturer Josep Freixa, who later turned it into his family residence. From this magnificent building, one of the architectural jewels of the city’s modernist heritage, the rounded profiles of the structure and the use of the parabolic arch stand out.
