A day in Barberà del Vallès:

proposals to discover the city

Do you want to take a leisurely walk to discover heritage elements dating back to medieval times?

A good lunch and then… a walk in the city center and a visit to the municipal market to fill your basket? Or maybe you’d rather end the day outdoors in a park…?

Let’s go!

MORNING

We offer you a route through Barberà that will allow you to discover the most important elements of the city’s heritage.

The Route of the Castle of Barberà is a route suitable for everyone and that will take you back to medieval times!

Departure point: Romanesque church of Santa Maria de Barberà

We’ll make our way back through the same route.

Duration: 2 h

Distance: 5.5 km

You can find all the information on the route here.

The route begins at the Romanesque church of Santa Maria de Barberà, also known as the Romanesque Church, a 12th-century construction. Its construction hits through the use of three different tone cut stones and decorations on the walls with blind arches, Lombard bands and sawtooth.

The Romanesque period pictorial ensemble preserved inside the building, discovered in 1919 under a layer of lime, is very remarkable. These murals depict scenes from the Old and New Testaments. If you want to prepare this outing in advance, we propose you to check this printable that has been edited by the town hall and that also contains information about the church!

What can’t you miss?

As you make your way you will come across heritage elements as important as:

The Castle of Barberà is a documented building from 1005. Currently, the farm aspect of the building is the result of several interventions and subsequent reforms. This castle originally belonged to the Count of Barcelona and later passed into the hands of the Montcada family and the Galceran de Pinós (who in the 18th century became Marquis of Barberà). The Castle, transformed into a farmhouse, was inhabited by farmers until the 20th century.

Torre de Ca n’Altimira: a defensive tower erected in medieval times.

WHERE TO HAVE LUNCH?

If you want to have lunch, in Barberà you will find proposals for all tastes and budgets! You can walk around the city and choose the establishment that convinces you the most!
