Modernism coincides with a moment of boom of the textile industry, very important sector in the region of the Vallès Occidental and in which the city of Terrassa had a very prominent role.
The most prolific architect during this period in the city was Lluís Muncunill, with so renowned works such as the Masia Freixa, the Vapor Aymerich, Amat i Jover and the Magatzem Farnés. It should also be mentioned the Parc de Desinfecció, the Casa Josep Coll and Bacardi (Casa Baumann) and the hermitage of the Sagrat Cor de Jesús, works of Josep M. Coll and Bacardi; the remodelling of the Casa Alegre de Sagrera of Melcior Vinyals or the ancient Confiteria Vídua Carné by Joaquim Vancells.
In the spring, the modernist past of Terrassa revives with force in the Fira Modernista. During a weekend the city makes a trip back in time and visitors can enjoy a calendar of cultural and leisure activities related to that time.
