The Torre del Palau is one of the most emblematic buildings of the city of Terrassa and the example of the old medieval village. It has its origin as a defensive tower of the 12th century, built with the aim of controlling the crossing of roads that connected Barcelona with inland Catalonia.
One of its peculiarities is that it has no basis and is supported by its own weight in a few wide walls.
Between the 12th and 13th centuries there were added attached chambers, thus initiating the construction of the Castell Palau, a small fortress that was the residence of the Count Ramon Borrell, around which it was formed the town of Terrassa and of which it currently only remains the tower.
The Torre del Palau is one of the headquarters of the Museum of Terrassa and it is part of the visit that offers the Centre d’Interpretació de la Vila Medieval de Terrassa, through which the medieval origin of the city is showed.
