The Museu Sant Cugat is a decentralised entity that has the objective of promoting the research, conservation and dissemination of historical, artistic and cultural heritage of Sant Cugat from a comprehensive point of view. The Casa Aymat is the only museum in Catalonia devoted to contemporary tapestry and is a secondary office of the Museu de Sant Cugat.
The artist and designer Thomas Aymat installed his workshop in St. Cugat in 1926, after a long journey through different European schools. Today, it is known as Casa Aymat. Here there were designed some of the most outstanding pieces of contemporary tapestry: from the more traditional beginnings with Tomàs Aymat until the works of the Escola Catalana del Tapís, which stood out for its new conception of this art form.
The tour explains technical notes on the techniques of the tapestry and the carpet, it discovers the history of the manufacturing and presents a set of representative works of Catalan contemporary tapestry.
