The church of Sant Joan was the parish of Matadepera until 1881, moment in which the parish headquarters was moved to the temple that had been built in the centre of the village.
Despite the fact that it is documented since the 11th century, most of the structures of the present building, including the bell tower, belong to the 16th century. In 1997, it was conducted an archaeological campaign that discovered two tombs and a silo of medieval times.
