A day in Sentmenat: nature and heritage

A day in Sentmenat: nature and heritage

We invite you to spend a whole day in Sentmenat, a small Valais town located in a beautiful natural environment and with a long history and rich heritage.

Did you know that the name of the city comes from its patron saint, Saint Menna? An Egyptian saint who was highly venerated during the first centuries of Christianity.

Have you heard that in Sentmenat there is a deeply rooted tradition of Gypsy dance? Would you like to go for a walk or a bike ride? Sentmenat and its surroundings are particularly recommended if you are a nature lover!

Below you will find several suggestions to spend a fun day in Sentmenat. Don’t miss out!

MORNING

Hike to the Font del Bou and Saltant de Guanta

If you arrive early, we propose a circular and flat route, which combines heritage and nature, in the municipality of Sentmenat. It will take you to the Roman cave of Can Palau, the oak tree of Can Ramoneda, the farmhouse of Can Senosa, the hermitage of Sant Fruitós, the Castle of Sentmenat, the hermitage of Santa Caterina and the waterfall of Guanta.

Find more information about the hike here

Oh! You can take advantage of the route to stop at the farmhouse of Can Fruitós, where you can fill your basket with organic “del ganxet” beans.

We also suggest you to visit the website of the city of Sentmenat to check the calendar of guided tours of the magnificent Castle of Sentmenat, a building with a long history, which is documented in the eleventh century, and which has recently undergone a restoration.

VERMOUTH

Once the tour is over and to regain your strength, you can go to the Cal Millonari Gardens to take the vermouth. This is a green space where you can enjoy a pleasant time having an amuse-bouche.

Check the opening season of the gardens and the opening hours on this link.

WHERE TO HAVE LUNCH

At lunchtime, the municipality of Sentmenat offers several gastronomic options with proposals for all tastes.

AFTERNOON

In the afternoon, while walking, you can discover the old town of Sentmenat. Do not miss the bell tower of Sant Menna (witness to the ancient Romanesque church) or the beautiful modernist-style houses of the city.

If it is a weekday, you can get into the shops and taste local products. You can find out more about the unique products from the region here.

You can also go for a coffee, a soft drink, a snack or some tapas at Café del Coro, where you can find the headquarters of the centenary group that brings together many of the social activities that are done in Sentmenat. You can find more information here.
