The castle of Can Taió

castell-de-can-taio

This itinerary will allow us to know the castle Can Taió, a construction that, unaware to the passage of time and embedded in an area of forests and crops, stands majestically up isolated from the town centre of Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. This house from the end of the 17th century, which became a castle in the 20th century, has passed from being a second family residence of the proletarian to be an orphanage after the war. Today, it is a great place to visit and at the same time enjoy a beautiful tour suitable for people of all ages.

ROUTE

We take the passeig de la Florida in a southern direction to the right leaving a roundabout where it meets the avinguda de Pau Picasso. In short, we cross the passeig de l’Onze de Setembre and go straight ahead to the confluence with the path of la Granja, where we have to turn right and follow it until the end moving in parallel to the train tracks.

We cross the street where it is the path of la Granja and we continue straight on, now however on a dirt track that takes us to a park in a slight descent. We turn right along a track that borders it and that takes us to the avinguda de l’Onze de Setembre which we will continue straight up until we take the road Can Taió to the left. A few meters ahead, we arrive to the entrance of the castle of Can Taió, the road surrounds the castle and leads into a track where it passes the path of the Vallès Natural.

On the left, we leave an underpass that crosses the train tracks and we take the track to the right which shortly locates us in the front area of the castle of Can Taió and that we recommend you to visit. We take the track running straight ahead in the northeast direction again, amid crop fields on the left and the pine wood of Can Taió on the right.

We move forward until we find a new crossing located just before a petrol station of the highway, we turn right and we cross the A-7 motorway by an underpass. Just when we get out of the underpass we leave a track on the right toward the crop fields, and a few meters ahead, we find a new crossroads where we have to turn right to reach the wildlife recovery center of Torreferrusa (especially birds of prey).

We follow the path until we arrive to the castle Can Taió again. Now, however, we continue straight ahead, we cross the railroad tracks through the underpass and when we leave we take a track on the left that takes us to a park that we will have to cross. At the end of the park we cross by a bridge the ravine of Polinyà and we go left at a roundabout where it ends the avinguda de la Estela Ibèrica. We take this avenue until we bind with the passeig de la Florida that we will have to continue to the left up to the Parc dels Països Catalans.

Castle Can Taió: built in the 17th century, it was not until the twentieth century that it became a second home for their owners. It is currently owned by the Generalitat, hosts a gardening school and it is the headquarters of the association Can Xatarra.

Wildlife Recovery Center of Torreferrussa: Construction which consists of a building, a central patio and a medieval tower. It is a construction difficult to classify because it has suffered many modifications. It stands out the three floors medieval circular tower. The first two belong to the original tower and the last one is an added water tank. The first floor of the tower contains an original chapel built at the end of the 19th century dedicated to the Mare de Déu de Montserrat. Torreferrussa is built on the remains of an old manor house, which was a watch tower which is still preserved. On their land there have been found remains of an Iberian-roman village. Currently, the property is a recovery center for birds of prey, a forest nursery and a headquarters of rural agents.
